TechCamp 2007: Cadre 13
This is the story of my doctoral journey in the Education Technology program at Pepperdine University, which began on July 10, 2007. The first stop along the way was TechCamp, a group setting designed to introduce new cohort members to the program (i.e., the technical requirements and expectations) and to each other.
Prior to arriving on the first day, I was somewhat anxious about meeting the seventeen other members of the cohort group for Cadre 13. Although, I had an opportunity to read everyone’s biography, I was still anxious. To quote Forrest Gump "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get." I guess it is just human nature that I feel that way.
But, to my surprise, in its context, TechCamp was the best box of chocolates that I ever got. I am still amazed at how easy it was to get to know everyone. It started with the housing arrangement. I shared student housing with three other guys, whom I quickly became very fond of. Chad and I are both alumni of UoP. We hit it of right away. Matt is a former Navy fighter pilot (F-18), which made for some interesting discussions, because I have always had a fascination everything aviation. Richard was just easy to get along with. He and I quickly came to the conclusion that having a car on campus has benefits. If you have every walked around the Pepperdine Malibu campus, you know what I mean (lots of hills).
That is all for now. So, stay tuned as I post other written and pictorial experiences at TechCamp and other stops along the way...

Interesting Discovery
I was recently reading, rather listening to an audio book On Intelligence. Really! The book is titled On Intelligence. Anyway! I did a cross reference search on the neurocortex and discovered a very interesting article, which complimented the article that I was listening to and caused me to ponder the concept of creation.
In short, the scientific premise of the article suggests the following:
Happenings In My Life: Walking the Walk
The latest things to bring meaning to my life is my volunteer service at the church that I attend. I am the IT advisor for preent and future infrastructure developments and recently had to step in to assist with day-to-day IT responsibilities, because we lost a key staff member due to a career advancement. I am also hoping to use my academic background and industry experience to assist with growth and expansion of our Academic Center of Excellence. Plans are currently underway to revamp the center with the latest and greatest technology innovations that will have a broad impact on our community.
It is our intention to provide information literacy education to all aspects of the community, i.e., youth, adults, and seniors alike. This plan will come to fruition once the construction of our new facilities is complete.
